An FFA team from Lost River Junior/Senior High School did just that Nov. 18, taking first in state at FFA’s State Food Science competition at Oregon State University and becoming the school’s first-ever national qualifying FFA team.

The first graders in Laci Teaters class at Merrill Elementary School had been waiting – 21 days to be exact. It was day 22, and their wait was over: Two baby chicks were on their feet, chirping.

“Last week was exciting because the eggs were starting to crack,” Teaters said. “You can actually hear them peep while they’re still in the egg, working to get out. So it’s really fun.”

Lost River FFA does well at state, heads to nationals

Lost River FFA was well represented at the 2019 Oregon FFA State Convention, qualifying its chapter and an individual for the National FFA Convention and Expo.

Lost River FFA will compete for national recognition as a chapter and Lost River senior Nolan Britton qualified to compete at the national level individually with his SAE (Supervised Agricultural Experience) proficiency in the area of environmental science and national resources.
