State Parks reservation booking window changes to six months beginning January 14

SALEM, Ore. – Oregon Parks and Recreation Department (OPRD) will accept new reservations from one day to six months out beginning Jan. 14, 2021. The change is the latest step in managing future reservations during the COVID-19 pandemic. Early last summer, the reservation booking window temporarily changed from one day to two weeks, then to 30 days, while OPRD slowly re-opened camping after a two-month closure. In normal times, the reservation window is one day to nine months.

Applications Open for Oregon Main Street Downtown Revitalization Assistance

Oregon Main Street (OMS) is accepting applications from organizations interested in receiving downtown revitalization assistance at its Performing Main Street(R) and Transforming Downtown designation levels. Organizations at these levels receive access to the highest level of services and support available through the OMS Network. The network also includes Exploring Downtown and Affiliate levels of participation.

Successful applicants receive assistance to help revitalize the economy, appearance, and image of their traditional business district. Services vary from community to community, but generally include work plan and committee development along with specialized training and networking opportunities.

Gray whales are on the move south again this winter, and the Oregon Parks and Recreation Department (OPRD) is celebrating the annual event with Whale Watching Week, Dec. 27-31. Visitors to the Oregon coast will have the opportunity to glimpse some of the estimated 20,000 gray whales traveling south from Alaska to their final destination off the coast of Baja, Mexico.
