Local business kickstarts funding campaign for volunteer First Responders, challenges community

KLAMATH FALLS, Ore. - The Klamath Community Leadership Foundation announced Thursday generous contributions from Wilsonart to assist two critical local volunteer organizations. The first contribution will assist volunteer firefighters in replacing and restoring materials and supplies damaged and exhausted in this year’s Bootleg and other wildfires. SHERIFF: KCSO Search and Rescue Volunteers Deploy to Paradise, Calif.

The Klamath County Sheriff’s Office supported a call for aid from Butte County, California, by sending five of its Search and Rescue volunteers to Paradise to help with the search for missing persons from the Camp Fire incident. The call for searchers came as an Emergency Management Assistance Compact (EMAC) request, which is the nation’s state-to-state mutual aid system.

Gray whales are on the move south again this winter, and the Oregon Parks and Recreation Department (OPRD) is celebrating the annual event with Whale Watching Week, Dec. 27-31. Visitors to the Oregon coast will have the opportunity to glimpse some of the estimated 20,000 gray whales traveling south from Alaska to their final destination off the coast of Baja, Mexico.
