Brown Announces Oregon Supreme Court Vacancy

(Salem, OR) — Governor Kate Brown announced today she is accepting applications to fill a vacancy on the Oregon Supreme Court created by the upcoming retirement of Justice Jack L. Landau. Governor Brown thanked Justice Landau for his dedicated judicial service, and announced that she will fill the position by appointment. The retirement of Justice Landau is effective Dec. 31, 2017, and the appointee will be expected to begin judicial service immediately thereafter.

Governor Brown fills judicial vacancies based on merit. She encourages applications from lawyers with a wide variety of backgrounds and experiences. Interested applicants should mail or deliver an Appellate/Supreme Court Interest form to:

Forms must be received by 5 p.m. on Monday, Oct. 9. Forms emailed by 5 p.m. on the closing date will be deemed timely received so long as a later-received original and signed form is postmarked by the closing date. Applicants are required to complete the Appellate/Supreme Court Interest form and not the Circuit Court Interest form.

ORS 2.020 provides that a judge of the Supreme Court must be a citizen of the United States, have resided in Oregon for at least three years before their appointment, and have been admitted to practice in Oregon before standing for election.
