YREKA, Calif. - On Saturday, September 26, 2020, just before 7:00 PM, the Siskiyou County Sheriff’s Office (SCSO) received a 911 call from a female climber on Mt. Shasta reporting that her boyfriend had fallen down an embankment and was injured. The call provided the location on the north face of Mt. Shasta at approximately the 11,000 foot level.

On Monday, October 14, 2019, at about 2:05 a.m., Siskiyou County Sheriff’s Office (SCSO) deputies and a sergeant responded to a call of a possible robbery involving a shooting in the Dorris area.  The California Highway Patrol (CHP) originally received an emergency “9-1-1” call that reported two people were shot during a robbery in the area of “Big Stump” and Dorris-Brownell Road, a rural, isolated, mountainous area located approximately 3 miles northwest of the City of Dorris, commonly referred to as Pleasant Valley Highlands.

Dorris-Area traffic stops net illicit drugs & gun [CORRECTED]

On Thursday, September 12, 2019, two deputies from the Siskiyou County Sheriff’s Office (SCSO) made two separate early morning traffic stops in the Dorris area, which resulted in the seizure of illicit drugs and one firearm. 

One enforcement action resulted in a short pursuit, a possible attempted assault with a deadly weapon with a vehicle against a deputy, and injuries to one driver who attempted to flee by jumping from a moving rental truck in motion.

On Saturday, August 31, 2019 the Siskiyou County Sheriff’s Office (SCSO) received a call from a female stating her climbing partner, later identified as Mr. Carlos Flores, 24, from Baha California, Mexico, fell while climbing on Mount Shasta and was unconscious at or near the 11,000 feet level of the mountain.  He reportedly fell on Casaval Ridge in the area of Red Banks.

On December 19, 2018, the local Siskiyou Unified Major Investigation Team (SUMIT) made two major drug trafficking arrests in Siskiyou County after they concluded an undercover operation that lasted nearly one-year. The complex, multi-jurisdictional investigation began in January 2018 when SUMIT Special Agents received information that one or more suspects were distributing large quantities of methamphetamine in eastern Siskiyou County and in the Klamath County, Oregon area.

On Thursday, December 19, 2018, at about 9:28 p.m., the Siskiyou County Sheriff’s Office (SCSO) responded to a call of two people found deceased in a trailer on Big Stump Road near Mud Lake (in vicinity of Lakeridge Drive and Lakeview Drive), in the Dorris area.  A neighbor reportedly found the adult man and woman deceased and notified SCSO authorities.  Sheriff’s deputies found a deceased male adult and a female adult decedent in the trailer.  Both of the decedents had identification with addresses outside of the county.

The Siskiyou County Sheriff’s Office (SCSO) has identified the driver of the vehicle involved in the fatal motor vehicle versus train collision that occurred on Tuesday, September 25, 2018 shortly after 8:28 a.m.  The driver and solo occupant of the vehicle sustained fatal injuries in the collision.  The victim has been identified as Ms. Ashley Jennifer Hinson, 35, of Van Nuys, California.

Sheriff's Office Probes Fatal Dorris Train vs Motor Vehicle Incident

On Tuesday, September 25, 2018 at about 8:28 a.m., the Siskiyou County Sheriff’s Office (SCSO) received a report of a collision involving a train and a motor vehicle in the Dorris area.  Additional information indicated the vehicle was on fire at US 97 near   Railroad Avenue, at the railroad crossing gate.  SCSO Sergeant Abner Weed responded to the incident, along with local fire department and California Highway Patrol (CHP) first responders.  SCSO provides contract law enforcement services for Dorris.
