Murder victims identified in double homicide near Dorris

The Siskiyou County Sheriff’s Office (SCSO) is continuing an extensive investigation into the tragic deaths of two female adults slain by one or more assailants while they occupied a dwelling on Hilltop Road in the Pleasant Valley Highlands area outside of the City of Dorris on Monday, October 14, 2019, during early-morning hours of the day.
On Tuesday, October 15, 2019, detectives from the SCSO’s Major Crimes Unit (MCU) conducted an investigative follow-up in the area. The victims in the double murder have been positively identified and next-of-kin notified. The decedents were identified as Ms. Mor Hang, 81, of Dorris, with a recent address in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, and Ms. Rosey Vang, 49, of Milwaukee, Wisconsin.
On Monday, October 14, 2019, at about 2:05 a.m., SCSO deputies and a sergeant responded to a call of a possible robbery involving a shooting in the Dorris area. The California Highway Patrol (CHP) originally received an emergency “9-1-1” call that reported two people were shot during a robbery in the area of “Big Stump” and Dorris-Brownell Road, a rural, isolated, mountainous area located approximately 3 miles northwest of the City of Dorris, commonly referred to as Pleasant Valley Highlands. The CHP relayed the original emergency call to SCSO’s 24-hour Dispatch Center.
Fire Department and medical first responders arrived at the scene, a parcel of land that was actually found to be on Hilltop Road in vicinity of Buckhorn Flat Road. SCSO and medical first responders discovered one female adult deceased inside a structure on the property. Another female adult located at the location was found alive but severely injured due to apparent gunshot wounds. The California Department of Forestry and Fire Prevention (CAL FIRE), Butte Valley Ambulance, and Dorris Fire Department first responders, along with the SCSO sergeant, initiated a heroic effort to save the severely injured victim of the attack. She was transported to a nearby fire station and while awaiting air transport, sadly, succumbed to injuries sustained in the attack.
Detectives and a forensic technician from the SCSO’s MCU responded to the location and conducted an extensive crime scene investigation at the Hilltop Road parcel and residence. SCSO MCU detectives interviewed relatives of the decedents but thus far, no person of interest or suspect has been identified. There is no direct indicator to believe area residents are endangered but all citizens in the local Dorris area are advised to keep their vehicles and homes locked and secured. All citizens are urged to report any suspicious activity or persons to the SCSO. An extensive canvass of the area where the crimes occurred failed to detect any suspects or other immediate threats to local residents.
An illegal marijuana cultivation site was located on the parcel and harvested cannabis product was found at the site; however, it is unknown at this time whether or not the attack is drug-related.
According to Sheriff Jon Lopey, “An autopsy is scheduled for Thursday, October 17, which will provide additional information to investigators and help to affirm the causes and manners of death in this case. On behalf of the SCSO family, our thoughts and prayers are extended to the victims, their family members, and friends.
