Firefighters Responding to Numerous Lightning Fires

ALTURAS, Calif.— Lighting ignited numerous wildland fires on the Modoc National Forest yesterday and last night. The largest is the 45-acre Kelly Fire just east of the Devil’s Garden Conservation Camp.

Three other fires have been identified, all less than two acres at last report. More wildfires are expected as lightning comes through again today and then as conditions heat up and dry out again next week.

The Bureau of Land Management is the lead agency in fire-suppression efforts for the Eagle Fire just south of Eagleville. Forest Service, CalFire and numerous local crews are assisting.

The Eagle Fire entered the South Warner Wilderness yesterday morning, but only a small part of the fire is burning on the Modoc National Forest. It was last reported at 2,000 acres. Updates are available on the web at https://inciweb.nwcg.gov/incident/5926/.
