KLAMATH FALLS, Ore. - On Friday, September 2, 2022, Keno Fire responded to a structure fire in the Worden area 15 miles south of Klamath Falls. By the time 911 dispatched the call, personnel from Keno Fire had already arrived on the scene.

An engine from Keno Fire’s Worden station was first to arrive and initiated attack on the fire.

Firefighters quickly learned the blaze had vented from the south end of the home. Fanned by strong winds of 30-35 mph from the southwest, the fire burned through the structure rapidly and into nearby vegetation.

Fire crews from the Oregon Department of Forestry were also dispatched to assist. ODF responded with multiple brush trucks, a dozer, and a helicopter to stop the spread in the brush and grass.

Water tenders from Klamath County Fire District #4 and Kingsley Field Fire Department also responded to assist with the limited water supply.

By the time the second engine had arrived, the house was fully involved, burning hot and fast. According to Keno Fire, “This made the firefight challenging.”

Keno Fire also reported that - at this point, they knew there would be no chance to salvage the structure and they could only fight to contain the fire, preventing it from spreading to other areas and homes.

Keno Fire adds, “fire conditions were so hot, a glass table outside the building melted, and window glass was blown from the house 12 feet or more. The Mill Fire in Weed CA had started a short time prior to this, and air tankers were flying over us after refueling and reloading retardant from Kingsley Field.”

The home was unoccupied when the fire ignited, and there were no injuries in the incident.

The Oregon State Fire Marshal is assisting with the investigation. The cause remains under investigation
