Four Local Deputies Among DPSST Graduating Class

Salem, Ore. - The Oregon Department of Public Safety Standards and Training (DPSST)is pleased to announce the graduation of Basic Corrections Local #BCL031 on Friday May 18, 2018 at the Oregon Public Safety Academy. 

The graduating class of forty-one will include four deputies from the Klamath County Sheriffs Department: Erick Kaber, Greylin Rice, Steven Stacey and Garvin Wong.

"The Klamath County Sheriff’s Office currently has these four deputies in Basic Training for Corrections as well as three other deputies in the Patrol Basic Training," said Klamath County Sheriff, Chris Kaber. "We are proud of our newest deputies and are anxious to have them back working with us."

Kaber continues, "When they return, they will resume their training with our staff until they complete the program and are released for solo work. That will be a great day for staffing in our jail.  All information we’ve received from DPSST Academy staff has been favorable."

The graduation event will begin at 11 am in Salem at the Oregon Public Safety Academy with a reception to follow after the ceremony.  Lieutenant Brian Bryson, of the Klamath County Sheriff’s Office, will be the guest speaker.

The graduating students appreciate the family, friends and guests who make graduation an appropriate conclusion to their basic training at the Oregon Public Safety Academy.

## Background Information on the BPSST and DPSST ##

The Department of Public Safety Standards and Training (DPSST) operates the Oregon Public Safety Academy which spans more than 235 acres in Salem. The Academy is nationally recognized for its innovative training programs and active stakeholder involvement.  Eriks Gabliks serves as the Director, and Sheriff Jason Myers of the Marion County Sheriff’s Office serves as the Chair of the Board. The department implements minimum standards established by the Board for the training and certification of more than 40,000 city, tribal, county and state law enforcement officers, corrections officers, parole and probation officers, fire service personnel, telecommunicators, emergency medical dispatchers and private security providers.

DPSST provides training to more than 25,000 students each year throughout Oregon and at the Oregon Public Safety Academy in Salem certifies qualified officers at various levels from basic through executive; certifies qualified instructors; and reviews and accredits training programs throughout the state based on standards established by the Board.
