KCSO Busts three illegal grows

KLAMATH FALLS, Ore. - The Klamath County Sheriff’s Office recently announced they executed search warrants on three properties between August 2 and 3. 1,766 plants were destroyed with an estimated street value of $10.9 million. Approximately 950,000 gallons of water have been illegally used on the grows.

Highway 97, Chiloquin

On 08/02/23, a search warrant was served in the 36000 block of Highway 97 near Chiloquin, Oregon. Two subjects were cited and released for possession and manufacturing marijuana.

A total of 288 plants and one greenhouse used in the production were destroyed.

“Using Oregon prices for the product, the value of the illegal crop was estimated to have been worth $1.7 million. The amount of water estimated to have been used was 155,500 gallons,” said the Klamath County Sheriffs’ Office in a press release.

Due to children being located at the residence, DHS-Child Protective Services was notified as a precaution.

Yainax Drive, Beatty 

On 08/03/23, a search warrant was served on Yainax Drive north of Beatty, Oregon. No subjects were located at this location.

The KCSO press release stated, “800 marijuana plants and two greenhouses used to produce were destroyed. The value of the illegal crop was estimated at $4.7 million. Approximately 432,000 gallons of water had been used to grow this illegal crop, with the water being obtained from an adjoining property.”

Moccasin Lane, Sprague River 

On 08/03/23, a search warrant was served on Moccasin Lane north of Sprague River, Oregon. No subjects were located. However, investigators located sleeping quarters.

“A total of 678 marijuana plants were destroyed along with four greenhouses used to grow the illegal crop. The value of the illegal marijuana was estimated to have been worth $4.5 million, and 366,120 gallons of water had been used in the operation,” stated the KCSO.

Basin Interagency Narcotics Enforcement Team, Code Enforcement, Oregon Watermaster, and Klamath County Solid Waste added additional resources.   

“Thanks to the work of the detectives and deputies of the Sheriff’s Office along with the other agencies mentioned above, this week 1,766 plants and 7 greenhouses were destroyed. The illegal marijuana taken off of the illegal market was estimated to have been worth $10.9 million dollars. The plants no longer exist so the continued misappropriation of groundwater has ceased,” stated KCSO.
