Lightning sparked, Taylor Butte Fire burning in the Chiloquin Ranger District

Chiloquin, Ore. – Firefighters are currently working on the Taylor Butte fire on the Fremont-Winema National Forest Chiloquin Ranger District. The fire, discovered Saturday afternoon is burning in a remote area of the District near the headwaters of the Williamson River, south of the Head of the River Campground.  It is approximately 20 miles east of Chiloquin.

Tuesday’s storm brought wet heavy snow to much of Southern Oregon and Northern California. Measurable snow was seen as far south as Cottonwood, California, 11 miles south of Redding.

For much of the Tuesday night into mid-day Wednesday, Interstate 5 was closed to semi trucks at the Oregon-California boarder to just north of Redding. Vehicles were allowed through if they met certain winter weather criteria (such as caring or using chains).

Klamath Tribes Hotel Development Update

The hotel ground breaking ceremony was held August 15, 2017, adjacent to Kla-Mo-Ya Casino, along Hwy 97 in Chiloquin, Oregon. The ceremony solidified a partnership for a 76-room hotel between the Klamath Tribes and Choice Hotel to build a Sleep Inn Suites complete with indoor pool, conference room, workout facility, guest laundry and breakfast space for hotel visitors. The new hotel will be located directly off Highway 97 connected to the primary parking lot of  Kla-Mo-Ya Casino.
