CHILOQUIN, Ore. - This afternoon at approximately 2:30 PM, a 30-acre brush fire was reported in the neighborhood south of South Chiloquin Road, including Blue Pool Way & Witam Bluff Drive. The intensity of the fire prompted the Klamath County Sheriff’s Office to issue Level 3 “Go” Evacuations for the area. An evacuation shelter was established at Kla-Mo-Ya Casino. One family was displaced by the fire.

Local area fire crews including responders from the Oregon Department of Forestry, Chiloquin Fire and Rescue, Keno Fire, Klamath County Fire District 1, Crescent Fire Department, and aerial attack responded to the call.

As crews knocked down the flames, about 40 homes were threatened. No major structures were reported to be lost to the fire.

Nearby roads including South Chiloquin Road between Highway 62 and Modoc Point Road were closed for about three hours to allow residents the ability to evacuate and give fire crews room to work the area.

According to fire officials, early in the incident two engines took some heat from the fire. Both engines are back in service. There are no reported injuries related to the Pool Fire.

Evacuation orders were lifted at 5:25 PM today. The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
