Owls Split with UBC on Senior Day

KLAMATH FALLS, Ore.-  Oregon Tech (24-28, 13-18 NAIA W) took game two of today's doubleheader by a score of 9-2, ending its season with a win and taking the three-game series two games to one. British Columbia (25-22, 19-12 NAIA W) outlasted Tech 14-13 in game one of the doubleheader Sunday at Kiger Stadium.
 
Every senior for Oregon Tech played and contributed in the doubleheader split. Those seniors were also honored between games and included Ryan RiepmaBlake Wrotenbery, Matt Del Fante, Doug MolzahnJustin JordanAlex PoltzNate JavineJames Bedortha, and Brooks Hanson.
 
 
Game 1 UBC 14 OIT 13
 
In a game that lasted three hours and forty-five minutes to complete and saw 42-hits and 27-runs, it was the T-Birds outlasting Tech 14-13.
 
OIT took the early 2-0 lead in the bottom of the first but UBC answered with six-runs in the second on 6-hits including a home run by Austen Butler.
 
Tech made it a 6-5 game with three-runs on 4-hits highlighted by an Alex Poltz 2-run homer.
 
UBC added a run in the top of the 4th only to see OIT score two-runs in the bottom of the frame tying the game at 7.
 
The T-birds scored two more runs in the top of the 5th taking advantage of two costly OIT errors.
 
OIT scored a run in the bottom of the inning on a Blake Wrotenbery RBI single to cut the lead to 9-8.
 
Each team added a run in the 6th making it a 10-9 game.
 
UBC then scored three times in the 7th on 4-hits to take a 13-9 lead.
 
Back came the Owls with a run in the bottom of the inning on another Wrotenbery RBI single making it a 13-10 game.
 
The Hooter never quit and added a run in the 8th cutting the UBC lead to 13-11.
 
UBC added one big insurance run in the top of the 9th on 3-hits going up 14-11.
 
The Owls rally fell short in the 9th as they scored twice but left the tying run on base with the third and final out making it a 14-13 loss.
 
Kyle McComb had a huge game for the Thunderbirds going 6-for-6 at the plate. Mitch Robinson added 4-hits and 4-RBI with Nolan Weger also chipping in with 4-hits for UBC in the win.
 
Three Owls had 3-hits each in the loss including Wrotenbery, Poltz, and Matthew Del Fante.
 
Anthony Olson pitched his way to the win for UBC to improve to 2-0 while Logan Nousen was hit with the loss for OIT dropping to 1-5.
 
Game 2 Oregon Tech 9 UBC 2
 
OIT Pitcher John Schulz pitched 7-strong innings in picking up his 7th win of the year giving up only 5-hits and 2-runs with 5-strikouts to lead OIT to the win.
 
Senior Nate Javine hit his first home run of the year, a 2-run shot giving the Owls a 2-0 lead in the bottom of the 3rd.
 
Schulz's only mistake in the game came in the top of the 4th as he gave up a two-run homer to Nolan Weger that tied the game at 2-2.
 
Justin Jordan smacked a 3-run home run in bottom of the 4th highlighting a 6-run inning as the Owls took over the game with an 8-2 lead.
 
OIT put the game away with one more run in the 6th to go up 9-2.
 
The Owls out-hit the T-birds 13-6 in the game.
 
Javine had a game high 3-hits with Jordan, Kevin MontgomeryRyan Riepma, and Micah Jio all adding 2-hits each in the win for the Owls.
