Richard Ambrecht of the Sprague River area, age 26, was arrested Tuesday afternoon, May 7, after stealing a vehicle and attempting to elude Sheriff’s deputies.

At approximately 4:30 p.m. deputies were notified by members of the Basin Interagency Narcotics Enforcement Team (BINET) of a stolen vehicle sighted in the area of Gary Street and Cottage Avenue in Klamath Falls. The vehicle, a Ford F-350 pickup, was reported stolen from Oakridge, Oregon, and likely contained multiple stolen firearms and unknown suspects.

Deputies attempted a traffic stop on South 6th Street but the pickup sped away.

The pickup slowed down at intersections and through busy afternoon traffic, but would not yield. After leading deputies on a 2.8-mile pursuit through town, the pickup stopped near Crater Lake Parkway and Etna Street and the driver bailed out. After a short chase on foot Ambrecht was detained; multiple firearms were found in the vehicle.

Ambrecht was lodged in the Klamath County Jail.

The Klamath County Sheriff’s Office was assisted by BINET, the Klamath Falls Police Department, and the Oregon State Police. The investigation is ongoing and led by the Oregon State Police.
