Grizzly Creek Fire update for September 7, 2020

HOWARD PRAIRIE, Ore. - As of 6:00 AM September 7, 2020, the Oregon Department of Forestry, Southwest Oregon District has completed a dozer line around the Grizzly Creek Fire, located a mile north of Howard Prairie Lake. The line has been reinforced with hose lines to aid in containment efforts, which is currently at 20%. Fire crews have held the fire to its existing footprint of 340 acres.

HOWARD PRAIRIE, Ore. - At approximately 2:25 PM on Friday, September 4, 2020, the Oregon Department of Forestry, Southwest Oregon District (ODF-SWO) detected smoke one mile north of Howard Prairie Lake. ODF-SWO responded with an aggressive initial attack including 8 helicopters, 3 air tankers, 6 engines, 2 water tenders, 2 dozers, and 3 hand crews.

ASHLAND, Ore. - A man died Monday afternoon at a remote swimming area north of Howard Prairie Lake. On June 17, 2019, at 4:10 p.m., dispatch received a 911 call reporting that a juvenile had been found unresponsive in the water at the Keno Rock Quarry, located on Keno Access Road just south of Dead Indian Memorial Road.

Snow Blankets Region, 24-Hour Snow Totals

Tuesday’s storm brought wet heavy snow to much of Southern Oregon and Northern California. Measurable snow was seen as far south as Cottonwood, California, 11 miles south of Redding.

For much of the Tuesday night into mid-day Wednesday, Interstate 5 was closed to semi trucks at the Oregon-California boarder to just north of Redding. Vehicles were allowed through if they met certain winter weather criteria (such as caring or using chains).
