Two Four Two Fire slowly growing northwest
/UPDATED September 12, 2020, 10:30 AM to include an updated evacuation map.
CHILOQUIN, OR – Growing to the northwest the Two Four Two fire is now mapped at 14,450 acres with 7% containment. Crews are close to having a control line around the perimeter of the fire. As firefighters search for and put out the hot spots, they create a wider line without heat. Those lines will become containment lines.
The increased fire size is due to better mapping, while the fire’s footprint has remains the same.
A virtual public meeting was held tonight on line on the Two Four Two Facebook Page and can be watched below.
Fire crews are working along US Highway 97 removing dead trees that pose a danger. Crews are also working on widening the control line to 25 feet.
Firefighters removed hot spots along the control line to the south between US97 and Oregon Highway 62.
From the fires southwest corner, north along ORE62, teams did work around homes and improved the control line.
The control line across the north side is almost complete and what is in place has held the fire.
Tonight, the goal is to continue improving control lines. Crews will continue working around homes and control lines along US97 and over to ORE62 along the southeast.
Engines will monitor the line to the west and north. They plan to hold that line so crews can continue improving control lines tomorrow.
