CHILOQUIN, Ore. – Last night an infrared flight flew over the Two Four Two Fire to identify any areas of heat near the perimeter of the fire. Identified hot spots will be extinguished today before crews are demobilized at the end of their shifts.

CHILOQUIN, Ore. – Tonight, the Type 1 Fire Management Team for the Two Four Two Fire held their final community meeting regarding the fire announcing that they will be transitioning to local control on Wednesday and provided some key information about the fire.

CHILOQUIN, Ore. – Great progress was made yesterday as crews are getting close to meeting the 100-foot depth of blackened perimeter around the 14,473 acre Two Four Two Fire. In some areas, crews have gone beyond the 100’ to eliminate visible smokes that are well into the interior.

CHILOQUIN, Ore. – Overnight, fire crews on the Two Four Two Fire between Chiloquin and Fort Klamath, Oregon patrolled US Highway 97 and Oregon Highway 62 to look for visible hot spots and extinguish any that were found.

CHILOQUIN, Ore. – Fire crews from the Two Four Two Fire responded to two small fires yesterday outside the main fire area, are contained, and in mop-up status. The Dam Fire is located near Chiloquin Ridge and is two acres. The Cattle Fire is located near the Rainbow Park area and is 20 acres. These are not spot fires from the Two Four Two fire. The cause of these fires is under investigation.

CHILOQUIN, OR – Holding at 14,536 acres Chiloquin residents were able to breathe a sigh of relief after a week of anxiety. As at noon Tuesday all evacuations were lifted surrounding the Two Four Two Fire; and residents were able to return home. By mid afternoon, Oregon Highways 62 & 422, and Modoc Point Road had been reopened for all traffic.

CHILOQUIN, OR – “We are lifting all evacuation orders effective tomorrow at 9:00 AM, September 15. Access to Road 422 north will be at noon. Highway 62 and 422 remain closed to the public,” said Chiloquin Fire Chief Michael Cook.

CHILOQUIN, OR – Fire growth of the Two Four Two Fire has been minimal thanks to calm winds and suppression efforts from firefighters. Overnight the fire grew 134 acres. Today, firefighters plan to work in the fire’s interior.

CHILOQUIN, OR – Growing to the northwest the Two Four Two fire is now mapped at 14,450 acres with 7% containment. Crews are close to having a control line around the perimeter of the fire. As firefighters search for and put out the hot spots, they create a wider line without heat. Those lines will become containment lines.

CHILOQUIN, OR – The Two Four Two Fire grows northwest to a total of 12,640 acres as evacuations of the Woodland Park and Rainbow Park have been lifted. These areas contain about 175 homes. None of these homes were damaged.

CHILOQUIN, OR – Last reported at 12,500 acres, Two Four Two Fire continues to burn west of Chiloquin, Oregon on the Chiloquin Ranger District and the surrounding area. An Oregon Department of Forestry Type 2 Incident Management Team assumed command of the incident this morning. The incident is a unified command with ODF and the U.S. Forest Service. Estimated at five percent containment.

CHILOQUIN, OR – The Two Four Two Fire is continuing to burn in dried grass, brush, and timber on the Chiloquin Ranger District and the surrounding area. The fire is estimated to be approximately 6,000 acres with no containment. The cause is under investigation.

A fast-moving wildfire is burning northwest of Chiloquin, Oregon. At the latest count, the fire is 2,000 acres and growing. The ignition point was at the Williamson River Campground and strong gusty winds have driven the fire southwest toward Agency Lake. Evacuations are in place for much of the area west of Highway 97 from the Highway 62 junction to Forest Road 9732 at Oux Kanee Overlook.
