CRATER LAKE, Ore. – With the increased fire danger in Southern Oregon, Crater Lake National Park will go into stage one fire restrictions. The outlook is for above normal significant wildland fire potential for the next several months.

The unit is located along both sides of West Highway 62. Approximately 44 acres containing roughly 2200 piles are in the areas scheduled to be burned this fall. These piles are from the construction of fuel breaks along Highway 62.

On these consecutive Saturdays, the event will take place from 8:00 AM to 6:00 PM. East Rim Drive from North Junction to Park Headquarters will be closed to motorized vehicles from 10:00 PM Friday (September 13th and 20th) night before the event to 6:00 PM Saturday (September 14th and 21st) to allow for nonmotorized recreation including biking, hiking, and running. The event is free, but normal park entrance fees apply.

Crater Lake, Ore. – At approximately 4:40 PM on Sunday, August 18th, the park received a call that a 27 year old male had jumped off a small rock cliff at Cleetwood Cove but had not resurfaced.
People on scene immediately threw out a life ring and staff from the Crater Lake Hospitality park boat tour operation went to the area in a small boat to help with the search. Park staff mobilized quickly and responded to the location, over one mile down the Cleetwood Trail.
