Klamath Falls, Ore. -  A special event was held on May 9 to celebrate the academic success of nontraditional students involved in Oregon Institute of Technology's Tech Opportunities Program (TOP). President of the university, Nagi Naganathan, Ph.D., applauded the TOP students who each earned 3.3 GPA or higher in fall or winter term of this academic year.

One student plans to return to her hometown and teach kindergarten. Another wants be an orthopedic surgeon. Others plan careers as wildland firefighters, Air Force and commercial pilots, business leaders and high school teachers.

The 38 members of the Lost River Junior-Senior High School class of 2019 on Thursday celebrated their futures with the school’s third annual Signing Day, 37 pledged to 12 different colleges, and one plans to join the Coast Guard this fall.

“Last week was exciting because the eggs were starting to crack,” Teaters said. “You can actually hear them peep while they’re still in the egg, working to get out. So it’s really fun.”

During roundups, parents are introduced to the school, the teachers, and the routines, and they register their student for kindergarten. Students also get a chance to see their school and meet teachers.

Bonanza Schools students on Monday got a private concert and a chance to meet and talk with 1997 Bonanza graduate and Grammy-nominated recording artist Ryan Stevenson.

Stevenson also gave a free concert for the community Monday night Bonanza Community Church. At Bonanza School, he performed several songs, including one he wrote about growing up in Bonanza -- “Single-Wide Dreamin’ ” from his album “No Matter What.”

Oregon Tech server breached, data potentially affected

Klamath Falls, Ore. – The Oregon Institute of Technology, informed its campus community of a data privacy incident that potentially affected certain data that it maintains. Campus leaders shared that after a detailed investigation by internal staff and external forensic experts, there is no evidence that any information was visible or was taken as a result of the breach of an isolated server used for teaching. Still, out of an abundance of caution, the university is offering credit bureau monitoring to the 770 people potentially impacted who had personally identifiable information on the server.
